History
Founded by former iRobot engineers Youssef Saleh and Marcio Macedo, Ava Robotics introduced its autonomous telepresence robot in 2018. The goal was launching the Ava platform as a "new video collaboration solution that offers users 'practical teleportation' with the ability to transform remote work and site visits." What sets Ava apart from other telepresence robots is autonomy. The company, based in Cambridge, Mass., equipped Ava with sophisticated sensors and autonomous navigation capability. The robot was based on a previous "tech demonstrator" project, also called Ava, that iRobot showed off in 2011.
