History
ReconRobotics was formed in 2006 to commercialize technology developed at the University of Minnesota's Center for Distributed Robotics under funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Science Foundation, among others. Today, more than 4000 of its throwable tactical robots are used by the U.S. military, international armed forces, and more than 700 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. These users rely on the robots to protect personnel, minimize collateral damage, and carry out reconnaissance missions in dangerous and hostile environments. The robot's latest model, equipped with magnetic wheels, was even able to drive vertically up metal surfaces.
